Make your Desktop Icons Transparent in Windows XP

you must do the following :

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Click System
3. Click Advanced
4. Click Performance area
5. Click Settings button Visual Effects tab Use Drop Shadows For Icon Labels On The Desktop
